Product and performance

Q What is Sovereign GaiXer?

An on-premises generative AI appliance that processes workloads locally in a compact desktop unit. Follow the initial setup guide before first use.

Jointly developed by Lenovo and FIXER, it combines Lenovo ThinkStation PGX-based hardware with an AI stack developed by FIXER in Japan. Internal data is not sent to the internet, enabling generative AI for confidential workflows.

Q How is it different from cloud-based generative AI?

The main differences are data location and pricing. Processing stays on the appliance; the Japan offer is a one-time purchase with no usage-based AI billing.

Where data residesCloud: data is sent externally / Sovereign GaiXer: processing stays on the appliance
PricingCloud: usage or credit-based billing / Sovereign GaiXer: one-time purchase with no additional AI usage charges under the Japan offer
NetworkCloud: internet required / Sovereign GaiXer: also works on isolated networks

For a detailed four-factor comparison and three-year scenario estimates, see Cloud AI comparison.

Q What work can it support?

It suits work involving information that cannot leave your organization, such as document drafting, contract review, record preparation and planning.

  • Legal and contracts: contract review, clause checks and alignment with internal policies
  • HR and administration: documents containing personal information and internal inquiry responses
  • Healthcare and pharmacy: draft clinical or interview records and summarize medical documents, with professional review
  • Management and planning: prepare confidential management materials and summarize meeting notes

For perspectives from different industries, see Customer perspectives.

Q How many people can use one appliance?

Registered users are unlimited. For 50 users, the Japan reference purchase price is approximately JPY 2,115 per person per month, excluding tax and spread over three years.

More users do not incur additional AI usage charges. Concurrent performance depends on workload. For larger organizations, including two-appliance expansion through ConnectX-7, discuss your configuration with us through Contact sales.

Q Which AI models are available, and is the quality sufficient?

FIXER selects and preinstalls AI models for business use. Models are maintained through software updates.

Top-tier cloud models may outperform local models on some tasks. A dedicated environment supports everyday summarizing, drafting and search. A practical approach is using both where they fit: Sovereign GaiXer for confidential, high-volume, routine work and cloud AI for advanced public-information analysis. For installed model details, use Contact sales.

Q Can answers refer to internal documents and data (RAG)?

Yes. Import internal documents into the appliance and use RAG to answer with reference to them, without sending data outside your organization.

Typical uses include answering questions from policies, manuals and past materials, or reviewing contracts and PDFs. RAG can incur growing cloud costs as input volume increases, making fixed-price local processing useful. For supported file formats and import procedures, use Contact sales.

Security and data

Q Can it be used with confidential or personal information?

Yes. Processing stays on the appliance and input data is not sent to the internet, supporting workflows with confidential or personal information. Apply your own access and handling policies.

The architecture and operational policies behind local processing are explained in Evidence and security. For IT teams, we also provide a Security Questionnaire Response Guide (free Japanese PDF).

Q Can it operate without an internet connection?

Yes, after initial OS setup. The appliance can run on an isolated internal LAN. Initial OS setup requires temporary internet access and may take about one hour.

It can keep operating during internet outages or disruptions, provided local power and network access remain available. Offline updates are supported. An offline-operation demonstration is planned for Evidence and security.

Q Where is input data stored?

Input data is stored on the built-in 4 TB NVMe SSD, which supports self-encryption. It is not sent or backed up to an external cloud.

Input data is not used to train external AI models. Data-erasure procedures for disposal or return are also available.

Q Can we manage users and access permissions?

Administrator accounts support user management. Contact us to confirm detailed access-control requirements.

Create an administrator account during initial setup to manage users. Discuss organization-specific requirements, including departmental controls, through Contact sales.

Pricing and payment

Q How much does it cost, and what is included?

Japan reference: JPY 3,806,400 excluding tax, or JPY 4,187,040 including Japanese tax. Includes hardware, software license and the Japan three-year hardware warranty. Overseas terms require confirmation.

Monthly equivalent over three years*Approx. JPY 105,733/month, excluding tax
Per-user equivalent*Approx. JPY 2,115/month with 50 users, excluding tax
Additional AI usage chargesNone under the Japan offer, regardless of generation volume or registered users

* Reference calculation dividing the appliance price evenly across the 36-month hardware warranty period. For a quote, contact sales to confirm applicable overseas terms; the Japanese automated quote is not an overseas offer.

Q Are leasing and installment payments available?

Japan customers can use a partner leasing company for monthly payments; invoice-based transactions are also supported. Overseas arrangements require confirmation.

Under applicable Japanese accounting rules, leasing may be treated as a rental expense and considered within a monthly budget. Payments depend on the appliance price and lease rate; a formal quote provides the calculation. See Payment and contracts.

Q Which is cheaper: cloud AI or Sovereign GaiXer?

Higher usage can make Sovereign GaiXer more economical. Historical examples for a 50-person company estimate cloud costs of JPY 5.81–20.04 million over three years, compared with the Japan reference appliance price of JPY 3,806,400 excluding tax.

Usage-based billing can make spending difficult to predict. A fixed appliance price makes that purchase cost known upfront, while electricity and optional services remain separate. Assumptions and sources are listed in Cloud AI comparison. For your own team size and usage, try the Cost calculator (free, about 30 seconds).

Q Are there additional charges after purchase?

The Japan offer has no recurring software usage or renewal charge. Optional deployment assistance is paid separately, as are electricity and other optional services. Confirm overseas commercial terms with sales.

Deployment and delivery

Q How long does delivery take?

Within Japan, delivery is typically 1–2 business days after dispatch, with free shipping under the Japan offer. Follow the initial setup guide before first use. Overseas availability, shipping cost and timing require confirmation.

For delivery deadlines, including financial-year requirements, use Contact sales. Initial OS setup needs temporary internet access and may take about one hour (see Installation and preparation).

Q What are the steps to deployment?

The Japan reference process has five steps: optional consultation → quotation → internal approval (typically 2–4 weeks) → contract and payment → delivery and operation. Overseas process and timing require confirmation.

In Japan, operation often begins about a month after obtaining a quote. Japanese approval templates and ROI worksheets are available in the Internal approval guide. For each deployment step, see Deployment process.

Q What do we need to install it?

For normal operation, provide a power outlet, internal LAN connection (wired or Wi-Fi 7) and a computer with a browser. Initial device setup also needs a monitor, keyboard, mouse and temporary internet access. No server room or dedicated construction is required.

The approximately 150 × 150 × 50.5 mm, 1.2 kg appliance fits on an office desk. No dedicated software is needed on client devices. Before delivery, review the Installation checklist.

Q Can we discuss our requirements before purchasing?

Yes. Contact us to arrange a discussion and demonstration to assess suitability for your use case, initial setup requirements and overseas availability.

IT and finance colleagues are welcome to join. We can also explain the Japanese approval template, ROI worksheet and other decision materials. See the Consultation page.
